Comment:
Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL), also known as Bilingualer Sachfachunterricht in Germany, is a competence-based teaching approach that is gaining ground in European education systems. The main idea is to teach subjects such as science, history, and geography to students through a foreign language.
This course will cover the principles of CLIL and how it works in practice. It will explore CLIL’s 4Cs Framework and the various techniques used in the CLIL classroom such as scaffolding, contextualization, multisensory learning, and negotiation of meaning. It will also examine other programs in bilingual education in Europe, North America and Australia and how those programs differ from “traditional” foreign language teaching.
