Basic knowledge of the strength of materials

Aim of the event:
In addition to the lecture various examples of crack growth are considered in the exercises. The application of crack propagation concepts to determine the beginning of stable and unstable crack growth as well as the direction of crack propagation and die calculation of the residual lifetime of pre-cracked structures have priority.

Target group:
Students of mechanical engineering, industrial engenieering, technomathematics, physics and computer science

Contents:


  • Determination of stress intensity factors
  • Application of crack propagation concepts to determine the beginning of stable/unstable crack growth and the direction of crack propagation
  • Estimation of the remaining lifetime of structures
  • Fatigue crack growth under constant and variable amplitude as well as under operating load
