Aim of the event:
Structures of mechanical engineering very often are subjected to variable vibrating loading, which can lead to severe damage. The mechanical behavior of such systems is investigated, where in particular the analysis of material fatigue and life time prediction are considered.
Furthermore, the force method is introduced. A method to solve statically indeterminate systems which is based on the introduction of unknown forces. Here, at the same time equilibrium and deformation calculations for statically determined systems are performed.
 

Target group:
Students in mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, techno mathematics, physics and information science in engineering.

Contents:
1. Energy principles (energy theorem, principle of auxilary forces, force method, statically undetermined systems)
2. Basic equations of elasticty (three dimensional stress and strain states, three dimensional elastic material law, kinematic field equations, static field equations)
3. Basics of solid mechanics (stress hypothesis, fracture and yield criteria)
4. Analytical solution of elastic problems (compatibility condition, Airy stress functiuon, derivation of stress concentration factors)
5. Stresses at notches (concentration factors, notches at variable loading)
6. Life time prediction with the stress concept (Stress-Wöhler curve, Basquin relation, mean stress effects, multiaxiality,life time prediction)
7. Crystal plasticity (Deformation due to dislocations, slip systems)
8. Life time prediction with the strain concept (Strain-Wöhlercurve, Coffin-Mansin relation, mean stress effects, multiaxiality,life time prediction, example from turbine industry)
