Requirements and recommendations:
Knowledge of mathematics and technical mechanics taught in the basic courses of mechanical engineering,
Knowledge of "Model-based Design of Mechatronic Systems", parallel attendance of the course "Control Engineering"

Aim of the event:
Computer-aided calculation methods have become indispensable in mechanical engineering, e.g. in the design and safety assessment of construction components or the design of complex technical systems.
Both in the field of mathematical and numerical calculations as well as in modeling and simulation of mechatronic systems, the software MATLAB has established itself with its additional tool Simulink. As part of the course, the methodological basis for the calculation and simulation are taught in MATLAB, with an emphasis on the physical and mathematical methods.

Contents:
In the first part of the course, the basic usage of MATLAB and the structure of the user interface are introduced. Subsequently, different aspects of the software, which are significant for engineers, are dealt with in depth. The trained matter is applied in exercises. The course concludes with real application examples from current research.

In the second part of the course, the focus is laid on Simulink, which is an extension to MATLAB for the simulation and control of dynamic systems. After an introduction to the program structure, the user interface and basics of simulation, single- and multi-body systems are simulated and analysed. Furthermore, individual aspects of modeling and simulation are dealt with in depth. Finally, the use of Matlab / Simulink for application within the field of control engineering (systems analysis, stability analysis, controller synthesis) is taught.

The examination takes place in the form of a practical exam.

Important notes:
MATLAB is installed on the computers available in the course room and can be used there. The provision of copies of the software for personal computers is not possible!
