Course offering details

Instructors: Prof. Dr. Rainer Koch

Event type: Project seminar

Org-unit: Maschinenbau

Displayed in timetable as: RKP PS

Hours per week: 5

Language of instruction: German

Requirements and recommendations:
none

Aim of the event:
The goal is to prepare the students for the task of solving new and complex problems, which they will encounter in their professional career. While being taught detailed knowledge on several subjects during the course of studies many students lack the experience of a structured approach on coherent problems. Interdisciplinary projects for students of higher grades with practice oriented topics are to create a better understanding.

Because of the varying topics the students will learn to solve new problems from areas that were only peripherally touched during their course of studies.

Target group:
Students of:
- mechanical engineering
- industrial engineering
- information science in engineering(subsidiary subject mechanical engineering)

Contents:
The seminar teaches different techniques and methods for analysis of processes and technologies and for development of improvements. Thereby the demands of the practice are transfered by changing contents that emerge from recent industry and research projects in order to allow a detailed view on new technologies, applications and processes.

The use of different methods enables the students to analyse and to evaluate the specific problem by means of process optimization, technical realisation, ecological and economical aspects. On this basis the participants elaborate concepts which utilize the optimization potentials in extenso.
The problems will be worked on in interdisciplinary small groups, which will present and discuss their results regularly to an expert group. This will help to improve soft skills, mainly presentational skills.

As a preparation for this seminar lectures are provided, in which team work, presentation and documentation skills are taught.
