Comment:
This seminar will introduce students to the history, impact and representations of the partition of India. After providing the historical background we will look at a number of accounts of these decisive events. Additionally, the theoretical framework of ‘border studies’ shall help in gaining a better understanding of the socio-political implications of mapping and the creation of borders and nation-states.
As part of the “Methodische Grundlagen – Periods and Texts” this course offers an introduction to reading strategies and term paper writing. The latter includes the set-up, formatting and revising of papers as well as citing sources and compiling bibliographies.
Leistungsanforderungen:
Attendance in the first session is mandatory. There will be a reading test on Howard Brenton's "Drawing the Line" in the first session. Knowledge of the historical background will be tested in the third session.
