Requirements and recommendations:
Basics of Polymer Processing
Aim of the event:
Extrusion is the most important method for producing semi-finished products (films, sheets, fibers, tubes, ...) from plastics. The method is widely used in Germany; the world market in the associated extrusion machine engineering is dominated by German companies. Engineers with specialized skills in extrusion are employed with polymer producers, polymer processors and machinery manufacturers.
This lecture's aim is to explain the process and its different variations. Calculation methods are developed for the main machine components.
Target group:
Students with Polymer Technology as their main field of study
Contents:
- General Structure of extrusion equipment
- Extruder Designs their conveying characteristics
- Sheet Systems and related processes
- Pipe Systems and related processes
- Spinning Fiber Systems and related processes
- Design of Extrusion Dies
- Cooling of Extruded Products
- Granulate Supply
- Melt Filter and Gear Pumps
