Requirements and recommendations:
This course is aimed at students of all engineering, IT-related and natural sciences disciplines who are obliged to write their Bachelor or Master thesis in English, but need some effective back-up in academic writing. Together we will explore the common features of writing English research papers, which will include among others the following topics:
· Structuring a paper
· Putting forth hypotheses
· Paragraphing
· Writing abstracts
A second core objective of the course is to acquire a coherent and polished style of writing. Therefore, grammatical accuracy as well as vocabulary expansion will be addressed equally. Instead of a final exam, students must submit five written assignments throughout the semester.
Please note that students attending this course need to have a solid B2 level. Thus, participants have to score at least 60 points in an online placement test, which will be conducted during the first session.
