Material science of plastics

Aim of the event:
The current discussions about the finiteness of fossil fuels as well as the emission of climate damaging gases pushes the topic of lightweight construction in all areas of mobility. Fibre composite materials contribute considerably for this.
The goal of this lecture is to impart well-founded theoretical knowledge of the main aspects of the properties, design and converting of fibre composite materials. The students will on one hand develop an understanding of the special, anisotropic material behavior and on the other hand learn about the necessary requirements for the production of an ideal fibre composite.

Target group:
Students of mechanical engineering within the main study period, preferable specialization in plastics technology or process engineering

Contents:
• Reinforcing fibres
• Textile semi-finished products
• Plastics as matrices
• Properties of fibre composite plastics (Fibre and matrix within the composite)
• Production- and converting processes
