Requirements and recommendations:
Fluid mechanics
Aim of the event:
In most technical processes fluid working media moving through machines and apparatus and form the basis for the aimed energy conversions. The lecture deals with fundamentals and technical realisations of these machines. The students should learn about the operating charcteristics of different types and be able to choose appropriate machines for a given application.
Target group:
Students of process technology and plastics technology and of production and product development
Contents:
1 Introduction; plant characteristics - Basics und modes of operation for flow und displacement machines - Determination of the flow pressure drop - Output and efficiency (characterictic) 2 Turbo compressors - Centrifugal pump - Turbocompressor - Forces and velocities in the impeller - Boundaries of the application area - Control - Cavitation - Charakteristic dimensionless numbers 3 Displacement - machines - Displacement - Pumps - Piston compressor - Other types 4 Turbines - Gas turbines - Aeroderivatives and Heavy Duty - Output and efficiency - Isentropic and polytropic efficiency 5 Power plant processes - Rankine proces - Optimisation of the Rankine proces - Combined power plants - Future power plants
