Mechanical process engineering

Aim of the event:
More than 60% of all chemical products are in dispersed form (e.g. as powders, solid particles in suspension, foams, aerosols etc.). Therefore, processes for synthesis, manufacturing and handling of such products are of huge interest. This lecture mainly adresses some important unit operations necessary to get products with specific desired properties.

Separation
- Characterisation of Separation Processes
- Classifying and Sorting of Solids
- Separation of solids of liquids (filtrate, centrifugate, decant)
- Separation of solids of gases (cyclone, bag, electrical precipitator)

Mixing of Liquids
- construction of dynamic mixers
- Ne-Re-diagram, quality of mixing
- mixing of highly viscous fluids, static mixing

Comminution
- Basics of fraction mechanics
- Destruction of single particles
- Crushing of a particle collective
- Laws of crushing
- Machines for crushing, functions and fields of use
- Wet- and cold-crushing
