Requirements and recommendations:
no requirements

Aim of the event:
In this course the students will learn through selected experiments about typical and basic problems of physics and mechanical engineering. Through this more practical approach the students will learn about the great variety of problems and different approaches and solutions in the various fields of applications, prior to any specific theoretical knowledge in these fields. The students will have to perform 2 experiments from part I (physics) and 8 experiments from part II (engineering). The choice is up to personal interest and preference.

Target group:
Students of mechanical and industrial engineering and information science in engineering

Contents:
Part I: Physics E1. Current-voltage characteristics of resistors E3. measurement of magnetic fields by a Hall-probe O1. light interference-Newtons rings O2. focal distance of lenses O3. rotation of polarisation plane O5. optical diffraction grating O6. diffraction of laser light A1 Bragg`s reflection and X ray spectum A4. radioactive decay A5. absorbtion of radioactive radiation with statistical defect valuation A8. determination of h/e (photo effect) E=electricity, O=optics, A=nuclear physics Part II: technics 1. material flow technique 2. innovative joining techniques 3. structural adhering techniques 4. digital image processing 5. laser-aided surface analysis 6. human being as part of a control loop 7. fatigue behavior 8. equilibrium of phases 9. fluid mechanics of fluidised bed 10.mixing of fluids 11.manufacturing of blow-foils 12.experiments in elastostatics 13.experimental stress analysis 14.link chain gears 15.mechanical vibration experiments 16.dynamic inertia balancing 17.methods of pressure measurement 18.methods of temperature measurement 19.refrigerating machine and heating pump 20.determination of material characteristics 21.active controlled magnetic bearing 22.mounting of rolling bearings
