Voraussetzungen und Empfehlungen: In order to attend this course, you must have passed the Introduction to Linguistics
Kommentar: Many people grow up with not just one but two or more languages. Some languages are learned from birth, some are acquired during early childhood and some are learned later in life and in various contexts, i.e. school, work, social media, etc. In this seminar, we will focus on the multilingual language acquisition as well as on multilingual language use. More specifically, we will elaborate on the connection between e.g. identity & multilingualism, emotions & multilingualism, etc. as well as consider important topics like code-switching and multilingualism in cyberspace. Finally, we will discuss some research methods for investigating multilingualism in more detail. Attendance at the first session is mandatory. As this course is part of the module "Methodische Grundlagen", it will also contain certain general academic skills beyond the scope of this specific seminar, including basic and advanced search for literature, the OED, time management, and form of citation.
Wichtige Hinweise: Please note that physical attendance is necessary in the first session so that we can determine the demand. Any spots on the course that are not taken will be given to other students.
