Voraussetzungen und Empfehlungen: In order to attend this course, you MUST habe passed the Introduction to Linguistics.
Kommentar: Contrastive Linguistics (CL) traditionally refers to the systematic comparison of two languages with the aim of describing their similarities and differences. Given that English and German are historically closely related, they are surprisingly different. This course takes a close look at the major contrasts between English and German. Topics discussed in class include, among others, contrastive phonology, morphology, tense and aspect, word order as well as contrasts in the lexicon. As this course is part of the module "Methodische Grundlagen", it will also contain certain general academic skills beyond the scope of this specific seminar, including basic and advanced search for literature, the OED, corpora, time management, and form of citation.
Wichtige Hinweise: Please note that physical attendance is necessary in the first session, so we can determine the demand. Any spots on the course that are not taken will be given to other students.
