Kommentar: Kommentartext: This course examines religion in popular culture: online tv shows, movies, fashion, music, cartoons and other widely consumed cultural media. Through (i) studying the depiction of religion in popular culture (ii) subjectively responding to these depictions and (iii) considering commentaries on such depictions by academic and other sources, students are trained to: - become more informed about the depiction of religion in popular media. - understand how religion becomes a commodity within culture while also being an agent of cultural transformation. - reflect critically on the distinctions between religion, popular culture and subcultural domains of practice.
