Kommentar: “English is the most spoken language around the world. Yet, not all speakers of English sound the same. Over time, several varieties of the English language have evolved, many of them differing from the kinds of English we were taught at school. In fact, the majority of native and non-native English speakers speak a variety that differs from Standard British and American English to some extent. In this seminar, we are going to have a look at a select set of regional and social varieties of non-standard Englishes such as Cockney (London area), African-American Vernacular, and Nigerian English. We will examine each variety's development and linguistic features and study the social and perceptual issues raised by linguistic prescriptivism.”
Wichtige Hinweise: Please note that physical attendance is necessary in the first session so that we can determine the demand. Any spots on the course that are not taken will be given to other students.
