Kommentar:
Late Modern English describes the period of English from around 1750 up to the Second World War. Only in the last two decades have linguists started to investigate the use of English during this period from a historical perspective even though important developments of English fall in this period: The rise of prescriptivism and the establishment of British colonies and therefore the outset of varieties of English such as Australian and New Zealand English but also Indian English. Both developments have had long-lasting effects which we will uncover in this course.
