Voraussetzungen und Empfehlungen: In order to attend this course, you MUST have passed the Introduction to Linguistics.
Inhalt: This class takes a closer look at concepts from syntax that students should already be familiar with from the introductory course such as word class, phrases, clause elements. From there, we will dive into more complex structures such as subordinate clauses in their different forms (finite, non-finite, verbless) and functions (nominal, adverbial, relative). Syntactical strategies such as clefting (It's dark green that we've painted the kitchen.) or extraposition (It is a pleasure to teach Elizabeth.) will also be taken into account as a syntactical form of information processing.
Literatur: A list with selected readings will be provided in the first session.
Wichtige Hinweise: Attendance at the first session is mandatory. Please note that this course will very likely take place online and remote only. The weekly sessions are designed as a mix of interactive real-time sessions and asynchronous sessions.
