Kommentar: In the seminar, various forms of contemporary culture are approached as phenomena where ideas about the popular and the sacred intersect inextricably. By approaching both the popular and the sacred as multidimensional concepts, at issue in the seminar are the ways in which contemporary forms of cultural expression relate to post-secularisation, re-enchantment and alternative spiritualities. Relevant examples are drawn from the spheres of fantasy and science fiction, music, subcultures, stardom and fandom, tourism and heritagisation. The seminar includes practical assignments where ethnographic and textual methods of analysis are utilised.
