Zielgruppe:
This course is primarily aimed at students of English linguistics in their first semester. In contrast to other classes, you do NOT need the Introduction to Linguistics as a prerequisite.

Inhalt:
The class Linguistic Methods consists of two parts: a lecture and an exercise session. They last 45 minutes each. Please register for the exercise session; you can select the lecture via tutorials. While the lecture will give you a background on the topics under discussion, the exercise sessions will give you the opportunity to practice your academic skills with hands-on activities.
Topics include:
- how to find a research question
- how to find and work with literature
- qualitative vs. quantitative research methods in linguistics
- data collection and analysis
- presenting your results
- referencing sources

"Time and place of exercise sessions:
Group A: Thursday, 9am-10am
Group B: Thursday, 10am-11am
Group C: Thursday, 2pm-3pm
Group D: Thursday, 3pm-4pm

The time of the lecture videos is up to you. The videos will be provided via PANDA."

Please note that physical attendance is necessary in the first session, so we can determine the demand. Any spots on the course that are not taken will be given to other students.

Please note that this course will very likely take place online and remote-only. The weekly sessions are interactive in real time (“synchrone Lehre = die Lehrveranstaltung findet am Tag und der Uhrzeit statt, die in PAUL ausgewiesen ist”).

Hinweis für Studierende, die bisher keinen Seminarplatz in der englischen Sprachwissenschaft bekommen haben: Bitte nutzen Sie wie gewohnt die Revisionsphase ab 19.10.
