Kommentar: Popular Music Festivals are cultural events that provide unique opportunities for social and cultural enrichment as well as economic development. Unlike concerts, where individuals primarily experience a live performance of a specific artist/band, Popular Music Festivals provide a broader range of talent and stimulating environments for the visitor. This trend is embedded in several well stated sociological concepts such as the Experience-driven Society according to Schulze (“Erlebnisgesellschaft”) or Eventization according to Hitzler (“Eventisierung”). Within this context a decreased willingness to pay for music when consumed privately on the one hand and the increased popularity of Popular Music Festivals on the other reveal a shift in consumer’s expenditure behavior which has been observed by various scholars. Thus, the Popular Music Festival Market is an interdisciplinary field of interest that needs to be researched and explored.
