Kommentar:
This lecture course will be a survey on the Phenomenological Movement, beginning with Brentano and ending with Lévinas. Although the course will proceed historically by following the main thinkers of phenomenology in a chronological sequence, the course will aims at a systematic introduction to phenomenology, its peculiar method, its themes and main claims. That is to say, the lecture will highlight the main philosophical assertions and innovations phenomenologists have made, especially in critical comparison with the movements to which they reacted (such as Neo-Kantianism) and which they, in turn, helped inaugurate (such as hermeneutics). These innovations will be grouped around the following themes to which – this lecture course shall argue – all phenomenologists have made a certain contribution: the nature of consciousness (including its full nature, as cognitive, volitional, emotional, embodied), intentionality, the lifeworld, and the descriptive account of what current philosophers of mind call the „first person perspective.“
The course is open to everyone, and no previous knowledge of phenomenology is required.
