Kommentar:
This seminar for M.A., Ph.D. and advanced Lehramt students focuses on the close reading of poems which can be seen as constituting key examples of modernist poetic techniques in the British context. We will analyse selected poems by T.S. Eliot, charting their development from the alienation and fragmentation of the earlier works up to the author's increasingly religious orientation as represented especially by the Four Quartets.
It is essential for the success of the seminar that participants read the poems under discussion. Moreover, active participation is required, and students will be encouraged to select and/or present texts and examples themselves. Some familiarity with and interest in the interpretation of complex poetic texts is essential, as is the willingness to engage with complex texts and issues.

Wichtige Hinweise:
As this is an MA seminar/'Oberseminar', Lehramt students need to have already completed at least part of their literature Hauptseminare. If in doubt, please contact me by email or in my office hours.
