Voraussetzungen und Empfehlungen: Introduction to Literary Studies
Literatur: Please purchase a copy of The Making of a Sonnet: A Norton Anthology (edited by Edward Hirsch and Eavan Boland).
Kommentar: The Sonnet is a lyrical form which provides an especially rigid formal structure and has therefore always constituted a particular challenge to expression and innovation. In this seminar, we are going to trace its development in Britain from Shakespeare to the present day.
Wichtige Hinweise: Requirements: You will have to pick one of the sonnets, analyse and interpret it carefully, come up with a backstory to your sonnet, think about what you want to express in each line and recite it in the final session of the class. (2 credit points) For three credit points you will also have to put your interpretation and analysis as well as your backstory into a short essay of about 1200 words. This seminar covers the Teilmodul "Methodische Grundlagen – Periods and Texts". It will contain an introduction to reading strategies and term paper writing. This will include the set-up, formatting and revising of papers as well as citing sources and compiling bibliographies.
