Kommentar: The Scottish philosopher David Hume once claimed that Scotland was a nation more acutely aware of its history than most other European societies. This seminar will investigate this proposition and reflect upon the stage as a medium of historical imagination in Scotland. The discussion will explore the theatrical construction of Scottishness in the different versions of history offered by plays from Shakespeare’s "Scottish Play" to Liz Lochhead’s Mary Queen of Scots got her Head chopped off.
