The grammatical core of the course is the based on the content of the chapters 1-4 and 8-9 of A Student's Introduction to English Grammar (by R. Huddlestone & G. Pullum, Cambridge University Press, Cambridge, 2005). The specific areas to be covered include: an introduction to the grammatical hierarchy, lexical verbs and the meaning systems of the auxiliary (i.e. tense, aspect, modal); clause elements; clause types; and, negation.
