Kommentar:
The aim of this course is language consolidation, particularly with respect to the skills required for text production in English.
On one level the course will focus on the kind of functional, communicative structure that might be assigned to an essay of explicit and substantial argument, as well as a basic inventory of logical link words suitable for textual cohesion.
At another level it will concern itself with the language skills that are input to any text, including such basic items as the following:
1. complementation structure of lexical items (observance of strict sub-categorisation as well as collocation),
2. observance of differences in the expression of time in English relative to German,
3. modification structures (adjectival & adverbial),
4. word order variation structures + functional perspective (e.g. fronting/"inversion"/passive/
FOCUS etc.)
5. Modality

Attention will also be paid to the identification of the source of error in productive work, plus error avoidance strategies.
