1. A Study Pack containing materials for use in the classroom and for homework.
2. A supplementary pack will be available for ZFBA students.

This material will be available at the University Copy / Printing Centre a fortnight before the semester begins.

Kommentar:
This course is meant to follow-up on the grammar, vocabulary, and composition work initiated in the CLC Elementary course.

The focus, as far as grammar is concerned, will be on phrases, clauses, and multiple sentences. There will be special emphasis on the structure of the clause, types of clauses, coordination, subordination of finite clauses (content, relative comparative clauses) subordinate non-finite and verbless clauses, and information-packaging in the clause. Our vocabulary exercises will focus on common academic words and our composition work will include a consideration of how principles of coherence, cohesion and the organisation of information shape written texts.

In addition to regular class-work, participants will be expected to do vocabulary and grammar practice exercises/ tasks on their own every week.

Students are expected to ensure that they have a copy of the study pack before the first session.


NOTE FOR STUDENTS DOING A DOUBLE BA (i.e. Zwei Fach BA)
You will, additionally, need to put in around three hours / week of independent language study. This work will take the form of a wide range of exercises and tasks which will be available in a supplementary pack. Your work will be monitored on a weekly basis and will count towards your final grade.
