Kommentar:
In this seminar we will concentrate on two significant cultural periods in Britain and Ireland: the Enlightenment and Romanticism. We will read and discuss classic examples of narrative fiction and poetry of both eras and thereby examine key motifs and ideas in the development from the Age of Enlightenment to Romantic literature. Starting with Jonathan Swift's Gulliver's Travels, over the poetry of Anne Finch as well as Romantic poems by William Blake, William Wordsworth, John Keats and others, the seminar will consolidate students' knowledge of different literary genres and periods. As part of the module "Project and Exploration" this seminar will include work on a project in research groups in which you will examine a Romantic novel in detail. The seminar therefore requires your active participation and your willingness to read long Romantic novels, for example by Jane Austen, the Brontës, Mary Shelley and others.

Wichtige Hinweise:
The course will be conducted as an asynchronous course in PANDA with a selected number of live sessions in Zoom. Please register for the course in PAUL. All registered students will automatically be imported to PANDA and have access to the course material. As regards organisational matters and the syllabus, I will contact all registered students in the first week of the semester.
